GENERAL
The journal was founded in 1955.
The Yearbook of the Estonian Mother Tongue Societyis an international peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Estonian Academy Publishers on behalf of the Estonian Mother Tongue Society.
The Yearbook publishes original research articles in Estonian and Finnish. All articles are accompanied by a short summary in English. The journal welcomes submissions on all aspects of Estonian and Finnic linguistics from researchers worldwide.
All submissions to the Yearbook of the Estonian Mother Tongue Society are subject to peer review. The journal’s Editorial Board and the Board of the Estonian Mother Tongue Society assist in the selection and assessment of submissions. Each manuscript is evaluated by two anonymous reviewers. Reviewer reports are communicated to authors by the Executive Editor.
In the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS), administered by the Estonian Research Council, the Yearbook of the Estonian Mother Tongue Society is classified in category 1.1.
Yearbook of the Estonian Mother Tongue Society is a diamond open access journal. No publication fees are charged to authors, and all content is freely available to readers.
Since January 2026, all articles published in the journal have been licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).
The journal is published annually in June. The issue is released on 30 June.
