Abstract
Expression of objective modality in Khanty is analysed. Command, permission, as well as prohibition can all be expressed by imperative verb forms together with certain modal words (rah- ’allowed’; an rah- ’must not’; mos-, ver- ’(it is) necessary to do something’), while prohibition only features a special prohibitive construction.
