Edusammud digihumanitaarias toetuvad tihti suurte andmestike kasutuselevõtule uurimistöös. Võimaliku uurimisallikana analüüsitakse artiklis neist üht – digiteeritud Eesti ajalehti. Eri digiarhiividest koondatud andmete põhjal näidatakse, et suur osa Eesti trükipärandist on digiteeritud: pea 60% viimase 200 aasta jooksul ilmunud lehtedest. Nende kasutamine teadustöös eeldab uurija vajadusi arvestavaid erivahendeid. Artiklis tutvustatakse kolleegide abiga loodud kolme tööriista: 1) digiteeritud ajalehtede ülevaade, 2) sõnamitmike loendaja ja 3) ligipääsupunkt täistekstide kogumiseks. Arvestama peab, et digiarhiivide kasutusvõimalused sõltuvad materjali kvaliteedist ja esitusviisist. Võimaluste täiendamiseks saab parandada varem digiteeritud materjale, lisada infot kontekstist, aidata tekstiainest rikastada ja luua ühenduspunkte digiarhiivide vahel. Olulist rolli saavad siin mängida valdkondadevahelised juhtumiuuringud.
